1. Leaders Are Not Modeling Disciple Making Believers reproduce what they SEE , not what they HEAR.
Believers imitate Disciple makers not leaders.
• 1 Corinthians 11:1 — “Follow me as I follow Christ.”
• Philippians 4:9 — “What you have seen in me—practice these things.”
If Church leaders don’t disciple, the church won’t disciple.
2. Fear of Commitment and Accountability
Real discipleship requires:
• Time ,Transparency, Correction and Obedience.
• Many believers prefer comfort over transformation.
Real discipleship requires obedience and commitment.
• Luke 9:23 — “Take up your cross daily and follow Me.”
• Hebrews 3:13 — “Encourage one another daily… so none may be hardened.”
Comfort destroys discipleship
3. The Church Shifted From Mission to Maintenance
Most churches spend their energy running programs, managing services, and keeping people comfortable.
Jesus never told the church to maintain; He commanded movement.
- Matthew 28:19–20 — “Go and make disciples… teaching them to obey.”
- Luke 19:10 — “The Son of Man came to seek and save the lost.”
When the church stops going or winning the Lost , it stops discipling believers
Mission requires movement. Maintenance requires meetings.
4. Discipleship Was Replaced by Teaching Alone
Teaching is information. Discipleship is imitation + obedience. Many churches preach well but train poorly.
Teaching gives information. Discipleship forms obedience.
- James 1:22 — “Be doers of the word, not hearers only.”
- John 13:15 — “I have set you an example…”
Churches that only teach create listeners, not disciples.
5. Lack of Vision for Multiplication
Most churches aim to gather crowds, not grow disciple-makers. Crowds impress. Disciples multiply.
- Matthew 4:19 — “I will make you fishers of men.”
- Acts 6:7 — “The number of disciples multiplied greatly.”
Many churches aim to gather, not multiply.
6. No Burden for the Lost
When evangelism dies, discipleship dies. You cannot disciple people you never reach.
- Romans 10:14 — “How will they believe unless someone preaches?”
- Luke 15:4 — “Leave the ninety‑nine and go after the one.”
Evangelism is the cutting edge of a movement.
7. Church Became Event‑Driven, Not Life‑Driven
Sunday services became the center. But disciples are made in relationships, not in rows.
- Acts 2:46 — “They met daily… from house to house.”
- 1 Thessalonians 2:8 — “We shared our lives with you.”
Sunday services alone cannot produce disciples.
One to one or Small groups are the best way to start.
